VOLUNTEERS NEEDED IN MORGAN COUNTY

The June 7-8 floods impacted over 2700 households in Morgan County.  As of October 17, canvassing indicates that over 330 families are still in need of assistance to get back in to their homes, and new cases are coming in daily!   Cold weather will be quickly upon us and these families need your help as soon as possible.

We are in desperate need of Volunteers to help these families!  While there is still some debris removal to be done, most homes need skilled or semi-skilled help.  If you, or someone you know, is skilled or has home repair skills in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, insulation, carpentry, drywall hanging, drywall finishing or painting, you can help.  Since we have a very limited construction staff, we do request that each group have at least 1 skilled or semi-skilled person for every 3 or 4 unskilled members of the work group.

Please contact Darren Coppock, Volunteer and Construction Coordinator,  Morgan County Long Term Recovery Committee (MCLTRC), 118 E. Morgan St., Martinsville, IN  46151 Phone:765-342-4200  e-mail: djcoppock@live.com

UMCOR TRAINING

AREA DISASTER RESPONDERS TO OFFER SEMINAR FOR CRISIS CAREGIVERS AT COLUMBUS ASBURY
While the energies of many United Methodists in Indiana are focusing on cleaning up water-soaked homes, others recognize that recovery from the devastating flooding in summer 2008 will mean more than mucking out and rebuilding. Survivors of disasters also will face unique emotional and spiritual challenges that unfold in the months of the recovery.  The United Methodist Committee on Relief and the Indiana Area Disaster Response Coordinators are helping clergy and lay leadership begin to address the spiritual and emotional needs of their communities with a basic training, “Calming After the Storm.” This seminar is scheduled to be held Friday, Dec. 5 at Asbury UMC, 1751 27th Street in Columbus, Ind. from 10 a.m. through mid-afternoon, including lunch. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Planners suggest a $10 donation to cover lunch and snack costs. For reservations to the “Calming After the Storm” seminar in Columbus, contact Jenni Walker, South Indiana Resource Administrator at 812-893-1760 or by e-mail at jenniwalker@mac.com
